Gernald Hawkins Sr. is running for West Park Commissioner, Seat 3 as a dedicated community leader with a heart for service and a passion for strengthening families.
As the founder of Fathers M.I.A., Gernald has dedicated his life to bridging the gap between fathers and children, emphasizing the importance of fatherhood through mentorship and support.
Gernald is a proud United States Army Veteran who has served our country in the Gulf War under Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. He is a life member of VFW, Post 8195. During Gernald’s military experience, he was in charge of and maintained $45 million of property and equipment to ensure operational success. Additionally, Gernald has over 20 years of service at the United States Postal Service, and brings a wealth of experience to his community involvement. Beyond Gernald’s professional roles, he has served as a mentor, chaplain, and football team mentor at Miramar High School, while instilling life skills in young athletes through coaching in Little League and Optimist football programs.
Gernald’s commitment to strengthening and empowering families extends to his role on the board of “Black Fathers Weekend,” where he encourages fathers to re-engage with their children and families.
As a Florida native residing in the City of West Park for over 17 years, Gernald is a devoted husband to Gina Grace Hawkins and a loving father to their three children: Gernald Jr., Malcolm, and Kyndal. Gernald also has two beautiful grandchildren.
Gernald stands as a pillar of community diversity, strength and compassion, inspiring positive change, and nurturing family bonds in the City of West Park.
